Two things you probably wish you had in your virtual classroom software

Two things you probably wish you had in your virtual classroom software:

Voice chat that’s really easy to use

Voice chat software (VOIP) isn’t new.  In fact, it’s seemlessly integrated into many software applications, from games to telephony services.  So it would seem that a teaching application would have some implementation of voice connectivity.  Unfortunately, if you’ve been shopping for virtual classroom software, you may have found software that either has a cumbersome interface for VOIP or none at all.

CAE Virtual Classroom software has voice chat features that allow an instructor to assign permissions to each student with a very intuitive, one-click functionality.  By clicking in the voice chat column next to any student’s name you can enable or disable their ability to speak to the group.  Similarly, you can also enable their web cam or the use of the whiteboard.

Ease of use is the key to this feature.  Managing a classroom and the material can be difficult enough, especially with each student in a different location and external environment.  The ability to control participation and exclude distractions needs to be at fingertip access.  If you’ve had the misfortune of having to minimize your classroom or tab to another window while simultaneously trying to teach an online course or webinar, you will appreciate this on-the-fly ability to assign or remove participation rights for individual students.

Remote Application Sharing

Imagine trying to teach a software class and resorting to using descriptions like, “If we were using the actual program, we could…”  CAE Virtual Classroom allows an instructor to open any application on their computer and then show the entire application to the whole classroom with only a drag-and-drop.  The instructor can also assign permission to use the application to individual students.  Learning becomes both mentored and interactive.

Another advantage of this feature is you are able to allow students to interact with software that they may not have, therefore, students don’t need an installed copy of the software on their computer.  This can greatly reduce software cost and setup time.

The power of very user-friendly, robust tools in CAE’s virtual classroom software becomes very apparent if you’ve ever had the experience of trying to control a virtual classroom setting while illustrating the use of a software application.  You can read more about CAE’s Virtual Classroom software on the official CAE website or check out a quick video on our virtual classrooms software.
